The new WaterMath Quick Calculator for Water Operators CD-ROM automatically performs common calculations used in water and wastewater treatment and distribution. Simply enter values in provided fields and it instantly provides the answers! Calculator is Microsoft Excel based.
WaterMath does 14 types of key calculations:
1. Unit Conversions
Converts between the various units of temperature, mass, length, area, volume, flow, density, pressure, energy, power, overflow rate, specific flux, and solids loading rate, respectively.
2. Equivalents Conversions
Provides equivalent conversions for several species on the basis of charge (alkalinity), nitrogen, or chlorine
3. Dilutions
Calculates amount of stock or neat solution to add to dilution water for lab and daytank dilutions
4. Volume and Area
Provides area, volume, and theoretical detention time for pipes and cylindrical and rectangular tanks
5. Chemical Addition/Dosage
Calculates chemical feed rates for commonly used water treatment chemicals (as liquid, solid, or gas) based on chemical purity, desired flow and target dose
6. Chloramination Target
Entering values into the target Cl2:N ratio and chlorine dose returns the required ammonia dose
7. Dechlorination
Calculates sodium bisulfite dose needed to dechlorinate pipes or tanks.
8. Headloss and Minor Loss
Calculates headloss, and minor loss from fittings, using Hazen-Williams equation and K-values, based on a pipe’s length, diameter, roughness, and flow rate.
9. Pump Energy and Cost
Determines hourly, daily, and annual pumping cost, and daily and annual power consumption based on flow, head, and pump/motor efficiencies
10. Water Hammer
Calculates water hammer (psi) based on initial pressure, change in liquid velocity, upstream pipe length, and valve closing time.
11. NPSHA
Provides an estimate of Net Positive Suction Head Available based on total system head, atmospheric pressure, and water vapor pressure. Provides water velocity and static head calculators.
12. Pump and System Curve Generator
Graphically presents system headloss curve and overlays pump curve for estimation of pump performance adequacy
13. Filtration Rate, Backwash Rate, and Backwash Bed Expansion Analysis
Provides essential evaluation for filter performance and cleaning
14. Nanofiltration/Reverse Osmosis Concentration
Calculates concentrate or reject concentration for a given constituent when user inputs percentage of recovery, rejection, and feed concentration
In addition, WaterMath includes “Water Density” and ”Common Chemical Molecular Weights” tables for quick reference.
WaterMath also provides nine Master Record Templates to provide an easy way for you to electronically record and save your data daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly. Records 7, 8, and 9 do automatic calculations, as well.
1. Fire Hydrant Master Record
2. Valve Master Record
3. Hydrant Maintenance Report
4. Distribution System Flushing Record
5. Main Break Evaluation Form
6. Pump, Motor, and Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Records
7. Monthly Pumping Record
Automatically summarizes flow and pressure data, so you can spot outliers that might cause concern. Statistical analysis provides parameter average, maximum, minimum, median, 5th percentile, and 95th percentile. Includes tabs for a full year’s worth of pumping data and graphical summary of annual flow and pressure.
8. Filtration Performance Record
Entering filtration data daily automatically populates the Filter Information and Trends Analysis; the user can then calculate Unit Filter Run Volume, Backwash Water Used, Normalized Backwash Water, Filter-to-Waste, and Normalized Filter-to-Waste. Tracking is provided for Starting Headloss and Ending Headloss. Statistical analysis provides parameter average, maximum, minimum, median, 5th percentile, and 95th percentile. Users can also conveniently enter measured values into appropriate fields to calculate filtration rate, backwash rate, and backwash bed expansion for comparisons to daily data.
9. Jar Test Record
Collect jar test data in the Jar Test Record. The system automatically calculates and populates results in the Settled Water Turbidity, Settled Water pH, and Settled Water UV254 absorbance tabs for graphical analysis. Conveniently enter measured values into the dilutions calculator (provided) to calculate specific solution concentrations of chemicals used for the jar tests.
